From Personal Scars to a Shared Strength
Hi, I’m Carolyn. My 30 year journey with post-surgical recovery didn’t just shape my life, it became my life’s work. I combine lived experience and ongoing study to create a gentle, effective path back to your body.
Empathy-driven approach
The truth is not everyone who needs healing has found someone who truly understands their journey, at The Gravity Technique I get that. Many therapeutic approaches can feel clinical or disconnected, and trying to heal can become frustrating and take up way too much emotional energy; energy you would much rather spend on living your life and feeling comfortable in your own body.
Your journey, your ownership
I bring the guidance, you bring your unique story! While I facilitate the process, you can rest assured that every breakthrough, every moment of healing, every step forward – is yours and remains yours alone. Your body’s wisdom is the ultimate authority in this gentle journey back to yourself.
Lived experience, professional expertise
My approach is something I’m proud to be known for. Why is that? Because I don’t just theorize or apply textbook methods, I draw from my own 30-year journey with post-surgical recovery, combined with extensive professional training to guide and support you with genuine understanding.
My Approach to Guiding You
My teaching is a blend of professional knowledge and personal empathy. Here’s what you can expect when we work together.
Guidance from Experience
I understand because I’ve been there. I guide you from a place of deep empathy, creating a safe space where you feel seen, heard, and supported without judgment.
Body-First Listening
Your body has its own wisdom. I teach you how to listen to its subtle signals, moving away from force and towards a gentle, intuitive dialogue that fosters trust and release.
Practical Empowerment
My goal is to empower you. I provide you with practical tools and a deeper understanding of your body, so you can feel confident and capable in your own healing journey.
From Personal Pain to Professional Purpose
Carolyn’s path to developing the Gravity Technique began with her own body’s journey. At 13, major abdominal surgery left her with an 11-inch scar and, over time, compensatory movement patterns that would become her greatest teachers. What started as yoga classes to build core strength evolved into a deep exploration of how the body adapts and heals. Despite years of dedicated practice, Carolyn experienced the frustration familiar to many – persistent restrictions and discomfort that didn’t respond to conventional approaches. The breakthrough came through studying fascial connections and movement patterns. Training with pioneers like Tom Myers (Anatomy Trains) and Gary Carter revealed how surgical scars and compensatory patterns create ripple effects throughout the entire body system. Carolyn’s professional education spans yoga teacher training (500 hours), three years studying Traditional Chinese Medicine and meditation in Beijing, extensive fascial anatomy courses, and hands-on dissection work. She is currently training as an osteopath, integrating evidence-based manual therapy with her unique understanding of post-surgical recovery. Her experience with chronic pain patterns deepened her appreciation for gentle, patient-centered approaches that work with the body’s natural healing intelligence rather than against it. The Gravity Technique emerged from this combination of personal insight and professional study – a method that addresses the whole-body impact of surgery and trauma, helping clients move beyond compensation patterns toward genuine restoration. Having navigated her own complex recovery journey, Carolyn understands that true healing isn’t about returning to how you were before, it’s about helping your body write a new chapter with greater ease, balance, and freedom..
